White screens when trying to create entries

    Hi,

I’m getting a white screen of death in the control panel when trying to publish or edit any entry in a couple channels. Other channels on the same site are fine. I’m not having trouble with any other part of the control panel or front end.

Just before the white screens started, I attempted to create an entry that had six pretty large images in a nGen file field inside a Matrix.

When I tried to save the entry, it appeared to time out while uploading the images. I was able to get back to the edit screen, but the image matrix rows were gone. No entry was actually created because it doesn’t show up in the list of entries in the CP.

Now, I’m not able to edit or publish any new entries in that section and one other section. Those sections share a file upload directory and custom statuses, but I can’t find any other connection.

I tried error_reporting(E_ALL) on index.php and system/index.php, but I’m not seeing any errors.

I’m on EE 1.6.9 Build 20100430 on a MediaTemple DV server.

Any thoughts? I’m really stuck here and can’t update a site that is pretty time sensitive. Appreciate your help.

I was able to display the error by setting ini_set(‘display_errors’, 1) system/index.php.

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 3008 bytes) in /system/extensions/fieldtypes/ngen_file_field/ft.ngen_file_field.php on line 842

So, it is indeed related to the large images I tried to upload.

I increased the php memory limit and resolved the issue.

It’s related to ngen requiring more memory than 32MG. Glad things are working again. Don’t hesitate to post again as needed.
