I’ve tried googling to my hearts content and digging through the forums - but I’m stuck.

The best I can find is in this entry, which gets me half way there:
    http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/55311/

I have a side nav that I would like to be dynamic - either through categories or related entries.

The problem is - it only works on one page.

    i.e.
Main Page - side nav works with links to sub pages.
Sub page - no side nav displayed.

thus far I haven’t been able to loop through the categories for the sub pages to make that work either.

    Any help? Thanks.

You’ll need to add dynamic=“off” to your side nav. Does that help?

Sadly, it does not. in the many iterations of looping through all weblogs or related entries, either generates all entries (including the parent) or merely dumps out the current sub page in the side nav twice (because of how I was testing out the category).

    So:
Main Page has a side nav with all sub pages.

Sub pages has a side nav with just the current sub page, duplicated.

Do you have a link we can look at?

Not exactly. This is using MSM and I’m pretty much editing on the fly, so anything I direct you to will be broken/inconsistent.

(Thanks for your help - and sorry for the time between replies)

    Hi krotscheck,

That’s ok. We really need to be able to visualise what it is that you’re trying to do so that we can advise you properly.

    Cheers

That’s fine - I’ve scrapped using categories altogether and resorted to using individual weblogs for each section with a nested weblog to generate the side navigation of 6-8 entries.

It works, and the client’s happy with the 6-10 weblogs per site vs. two weblogs and multiple categories.

    Hi krotscheck,

Okay. Glad that you found a solution. Please post back if you have further questions or problems.
