Where are your video tutorials… Like the one for installing EE?

Unfortunately the video tutorials were for 1.4 and are no longer available. We’re hoping to bring back some resources to create a more up-to-date version, but for now, they are not available. If you’d like, you can certainly go to http://eeinsider.com and http://train-ee.com for learning materials.

Does the current written documentation online, under User Guide> Installation and Updating Instructions>Installation Instructions, work for 1.6.7? Thanks

You’ll be able to use the 1.x docs under http://expressionengine.com/legacy_docs/ for 1.6.7. However, if you have an opportunity to update to 1.6.9 we encourage that for bug fixes and feature updates. You can find update information in the same documentation.

Note that the User Guide found at the URL /user_guide/ is for version 2.

EE makes everything so #$%@!!! complicated, can you please tell me what to do to upgrade? So I don’t have to figure out Build this and Build that….. I’m just a simple designer…

Here is what I’m working with…..

    1. This is a fresh install. No previous files…

    2. I have downloaded 1.6.7 ready to upload

    3. I have downloaded 1.6.9 and it is ready to upload

Do I upload 1.6.7 then upload 1.6.9 over it?
    Or..
Upload 1.6.9 by it self with out a previous version.

And please send me the exact URL to the Doc that shows what I need to do?

    Thank You.

Hi, Greg - going from 1.6.7 to 1.6.9 would be a version update.  Here are the EE 1 docs on Updating to a newer version.

Again… This is a fresh install so do I…

upload the files for 1.6.7 first as a regular install, and then follow the directions in above doc?

    Or…

    only install 1.6.9?

Just follow the new install instructions for 1.6.9 and you’re good to go.

    Hi, Greg -

1.6.7 is quite old, you wouldn’t do a fresh install with 1.6.7 which is why I think we’re having some miscommunication.  When starting fresh, you should always use the latest version in that branch.  The installation instructions for 1.6.9 are in the legacy documentation

    Thanks, Now were getting somewhere.

Also, I’m unsure about this process because all the files/folders look different in the 1.6.9 version. Here is a screen shot of my finder window for 1.6.9 folder…

Here is what I have for 1.6.7

Are the files I have in EEDocs1.6.9 folder correct?

You’re looking at the 1.6.9 Docs and the 1.6.7 application folders.  You’ll want the 1.6.9 application folders for the installation. =)

I might also suggest deleting the 1.6.7 info just to avoid any chance of confusion.  Since you’re starting fresh with 1.6.9 that should be all you need, and the 1.6.X forums will help you along the way as well.  EE has a great user-support community. Got me up to speed myself in no time (I’m not much of a code or server guy either).

Oh, and the absolute best 1.6.X tutorials, in my view, are the ones from Michael Boyink at www.train-ee.com.  I got comfortable fast going through his free tutorials, and I bought a couple of screen casts.  Totally worth the investment of your time.  I just wish he was on the East Coast so I could attend a session of his more easily.  Just have to talk him into a roadshow!
