Ok, I’m creating a new channel, in the channel I have a select dropdown, I want to use the “Populate the menu from another custom field” to select the TITLE field of a weblog entry. So in my example (photo attached). I have a channel of authors, and a channel of articles, and I want to be able to pick a specific author for a specific article, but I can’t pick this field. It’s not a custom field, but it’s a default/required field. This was possible in the old IE. Please tell me this function hasn’t been stripped out! I shouldn’t need playa for this!

yeah, this kind of forces you to add a custom field for redundant data. why the limitation?

Ok, I think I figured it out. I think I confused this with the “Relationship” field type, which offers similar but not identical functionality.

I think you’ve hit on it. The Relationship field type will allow you to actually associate one entry with another entry and pull in any information from the related entry (or reverse related entry, if you need it). The Dropdown field type is actually just setting a single value in the entry based on the specific values specified elsewhere.
