I’m running my site on EE 1.6.7 for about two years without any problems so far. However, about 2 days ago I noticed a strange “Internal Server Error” every time I try to visit my site while the admin panel remains working properly. I didn’t change anything and basically didn’t even touch the files on my server for about one month, maybe even more now so I really don’t know what went wrong.

Anybody else who currently experiences this problem on a MediaTemple server or maybe experienced an issue like that in general some time ago?

Any help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks!

If it’s been working fine until now and suddenly does not, chances are something changed on the server. Have you asked your host about it? Also, a 500 error is very unspecific. The web server’s error log should be able to tell us more about what caused this message. Again, your host should be able to help you there.

Thank you very much for your help — I recently had a look at the log files of the server but to be honest, I’m not sure what to look for. Is there a specific expression, error or warning which indicates the cause for an internal server error?

I also discussed that with a member of MediaTemple’s support staff but he unfortunately didn’t really react to the part of my message where I asked if they changed something on the server settings. The site is really important because it represents my freelance business so any further help or hint would be much appreciated of course.

The error message should be much more verbose, telling you the precise reason for the 500 server error. If you are getting such an error, look that up in the logs (it’s time stamped) to see if there is any more info.

Thanks again for your help — I had a look at the server error log and noticed that one line inside the htaccess file appeared to be wrong because of some reason. The site works properly again now — nevertheless, it’s a bit strange that the file has been modified because I didn’t access the server for a while and my random 30 character password should be secure enough.

However, thanks for your help once again! 😊
