We have an issue that has come up over the past few days.  We have created 4 new groups, but when we try to add any members to groups after the first one created (of the 4), the members get added to the first of the 4 groups.  These are not the first groups created - there are about 125 other groups that have been created over the years.

For example, I have created 4 groups:
    Group1
    Group2
    Group3
    Group4

Add Memberx to Group3, but that member shows up in Group1.

We are running EE 1.6.7 on a mySQL database.

Has anyone run into this problem before?

Welcome to the forums, sheldon2409. Your version of EE is rather old. Any chance you can upgrade to the most recent version? It would help us to rule out file corruption and make sure that we’re all on the same page, as it were, in terms of code.

Yes, we could upgrade to the latest version, but not this week…  We are just about to start the semester, and we are in a crunch for time.

But…  I think I did figure out the problem.  I did a google search which searched the archive forum not just the current one, and found the following article:

    http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/130147/P0/

That lead me to look at the exp_members table, and I found that the group_id field was set to tinyint of length 3.  We changed the field to an Int length 6 and that seemed to solve the problem.

Thanks very much for the quick response, and I think you can mark this one as solved.

Glad to see you got to the bottom of this by yourself. Please post again in case there’s anything else.
