Hi,
I am running the upgrade wizard to upgrade from 1.6.7 to 2.1.

I got to http://alachuaconservationtrust.org/act/“index.php?C=wizard&M=do_update&agree=yes&ajax_progress=yes&language=english&templates=manual\”

and got a 404 with the following message:

The requested URL /act/\“index.php was not found on this server.

1. How do I fix this?

Looking at the main website, http://www.alachuaconservationtrust.org I get:

The system path does not appear to be set correctly. Please open your path.php file and correct the path.

path.php says $system_path = “./act/”;

2. How do I fix this?

The upgrade broke my live site.  The main page is unstyled. 

I am guessing I should not have let the live site and the site to be upgraded share the same database.

I have asked the hosting people to restore the site to the way it was this morning and tomorrow I will try the upgrade again, this time with a copy of the database as well as a copy of the website.

Does anyone know what went wrong?  I don’t want to repeat my mistakes tomorrow.

First, I’d suggest upgrading to 1.6.9 to make sure that goes smoothly. Please keep us posted and make sure to follow that documentation carefully.

I have tried again, upgrading EE 1.6.9 to 2.1.  I have read and followed all of the instructions.  I upgraded 1.6.7 to 1.6.9 and then 1.6.9 to 2.1.

It fails at:

with a 404.

The ” are from my browser URL.  It copies and pastes as:
http://alachuaconservationtrust.org.lhost7.atlantic.net/act/“index.php?C=wizard&M=do_update&agree=yes&ajax_progress=yes&language=english&templates=manual”

I am going to restore.  Could anyone please review my install and tell me what to change?

Is there a check list of tests to conduct before upgrading?

Is there a check list of things to check?

What might my internet provider be doing differently from a regular internet provider?

I have copied the site to a new server.  I have the live site and the new test site running.  I am going to try to upgrade. 

Can you please send me an upgrade that will write 1,2,3… to a log so I can see where it fails?

I am going to try upgrading again but it fails at the same place each time, this time I will change the DNS server to point to the new site.

That URL is very strange. What type of server is your site hosted on (Apache on Linux, Apache on Windows, IIS)? Is your server professionally hosted? How many templates and template groups do you have in your install?

The server is hosted on CentOS linux with Apache.  It is professionally hosted.  We have 5 template groups.

I am about to upgrade.  Cross your fingers.

Just got the message:

I do not have any files in system/expressionengine/templates/<site_short_name>/.  I am upgrading from 1.6.7, it does not have an expressionengine folder.

I click the resume link and it fails at:

with:
The requested URL /actor/\“index.php was not found on this server.

It is escaping the quote.  Why?

Maybe the resume upgrade fails.  This looks like a simple configuration issue.  I changed the name of my system folder from act to actor and it failed in the same way.  I am using Notepad++ and reentered the quotes in case I had some fancy quotes.

Could someone at Expression Engine take a look at this please?

When did you download the 2.1.0 files? Would you mind downloading them again and trying the upgrade? There was an issue with renamed system folders in an earlier build that is now fixed.

I downloaded them last week.  When was the fix?

The first day of the new build. August 10th.

Just got the latest download.

I am trying to delete everything off of the server but get:

550 Remove directory operation failed.

when I try to delete the system and themes folders.

I have 777 permissions and I have tried with the latest FileZilla and FireFTP.  Is this a problem?

Found the answer.  I needed to turn on the Show Hidden Files option in the FTP client and then delete all of the files.  The client could not delete the folders while files remained in them.
