    Hi,

I am having issues with the websites that I host on Media Temple that use Expression Engine 1.

    The error message reads:

“Database Error: Unable to connect to your database. Your database appears to be turned off or the database connection settings in your config file are not correct. Please contact your hosting provider if the problem persists.”

I am having this issue (however its sporadic) and was wondering if anybody else has had this and what I need to do to correct the issue.

    Thanks in advance,
    Richard

Richard, are you using gs or dv on MT?

    Hi Sue,

Thanks for a speedy reply. Sorry, its the GS service. Sometimes it’s fine but just recently its happening more and more. Wait five - ten minutes and they work fine again. But obviously I need to get this fixed as they are client sites.

    Hope you can help!

Well, MT has a database container you can use with it, which will up your client’s monthly cost. Sometimes that helps.

Another alternative is to just switch them over to EngineHosting. You just don’t get those kinds of issues there.

NOTE: There are other great hosting companies, but I’m prejudiced.

Media Temple recently, I’d say over the past 18 months have just got worse and worse. It’s a shame as they were once, very good. I am awaiting a response from them regarding the issue so will see what they suggest. I would love to switch to Engine Hosting again but I have so many domains on MT that at the moment I do not have the time to switch everything over. If I get a resolution to this problem I will post it on this thread as I’m sure I wont be the first or last!
