Is there a way to fix, or change, the default Member Group Assignment option when you Register a new Member?

My client wants the default to be membership with lower access rights, but the default always shows a higher one.

How is this allocated? Is it the last added membership group? The highest group_id?

Hi, Mark. Look for:

Admin ›  Members and Groups ›  Membership Preferences

Default Member Group Assigned to New Members and set that to something other than members.

Sort of. I’ve set it to Customer (in my case) but this doesn’t appear to have changed the Member Group Assignment drop-down on the Register a New Member.

But, does this mean that regardless of what the drop-down list is set to, upon activation, the member will be automatically assigned to Customer?

Hi Mark,

Registering a user from the control panel bypasses activation, so whatever is chosen in the dropdown will become their group. I do think that making that dropdown default to the group selected as Default Member Group Assigned to New Members would be a good feature request, though.
