    Hi All,

Recently moved our website from one domain (http://www.aboutseniors.com.au) to the other (http://www.yourlifechoices.com.au/) and copied all the information and database over and made changed before flicking the switch.

Website has been running fine once we overcame a few issues and i am not very competent in Expression Engine to say the very least… have been able to make code changes etc all ok but not a coder/programmer, just a manager of the website and content editor etc.

The last two Tuesdays (Enewsletter send out to 25k subscribers, 1000 clicks within first hour, 6000 for the life of the newsletter over 3 days) we have encountered issues with our web host reporting that we have been maxing out the cpu on our web server and it has been “Spawning multiple php-cgi processes” which means nothing to me and cannot find anything on the internet regarding this. It did not happen on our Friday send out (each link to separate page with less content on them compared to the Tuesday where they were sent to some with 20+ articles).

Am really just trying to get some answers on what may be causing this? I found that on the first tuesday by removing a number of articles and reallocating them to a different page, that the website stayed stable. The Tech reported that we keep “maxing’ the cpu in spikes but not constantly.. unlike when we had a large amount constantly trying to visit different pages, so it seems like it is a code issue.

Any help would be appreciated. I believe we are still using Version 6.0.0 which i know you will immediately say, upgrade the version. That is on the cards, just not a top priority, as i don’t feel thats causing the problem as it didn’t happen on the previous site, but it will be done within the next two weeks, just a few more important things/lack of man power.

    Thanks,
    Drew

Ps. Shared hosting server, paying a fair amount per year for it so it is not used by “many” websites, compared to a lower down plan.. but we have to host out of Australia for SEO reasons.

    Hi Drew,

By “Version 6.0.0” you are referring to IIS on the server, I assume? EE is a standard PHP application, so if an issue is occurring between PHP and the server, as is the case here, that’s out of its control.

Basically what they are telling you is that your current server can’t handle the load when you get traffic spikes. The only remedy would be to upgrade your plan or move to a host better equipped to handle such spikes.
