I’ve got a site that I plan to upgrade to EE 2.1 in the very near future. It uses nGen’s File fieldtype in several places. However, there are plans to update nGen File to 2.x compatibility, so when I upgrade, I’ll have to switch those fields over to be File fields. However, when I do so, will the file assignments remain, or will I have to rebuild each entry’s image assignments using the EE’s built-in File field?

FWIW, I asked this over on the nGen support forums, but they didn’t know. So I thought I’d ask here. (Hope this is the right place, I’m still getting used to the new forum organization.)

I’m not sure how it stores this information.  I’d recommend upgrading in a dev environment and making sure you have a plan ready for the live site.  That way you can see first-hand what happens.
