Changing Databases on an Existing Install

I’m prepping for my upgrade from EE 1.x to 2.x and recreated my live site locally so I’ll have an archival copy of my EE version 1 data.

I cloned my live install in a MAMP > htdocs subdirectory and renamed it ‘archive168’ and then created a new database called ‘archive168’ and imported my current live database into it.

Now when I point to the new database—$conf[‘db_name’] = “archive168”;—in both config.php and config_bak.php, the control panel is not connecting to the database.

Am I going about this the right way?

    Thanks.

This maybe be a bit obvious but I’ll go ahead and ask anyway, butn have you also changed the username and password in the config.php file? With MAMP the default username and password are root and root.

I do have the username and password set to ‘root’.

The config works when I use the imported version of my live database. The problem is getting the new database to hookup. All I’m changing in the config docs is the $conf[‘db_name’].

    Thanks.

    ramonekalsaw,

Can you run the dbtest.php in your /system/utilities folder please.

Note: you will need to open it up and manually add your values in your text editor

Where is dbtest.php located? I looked in SQL Manager but didn’t see it.

    Thanks.

I am talking about the actual files on your server. You’ll find that file via FTP, not your control panel.
