I’m attempting to upgrade from v2.0.2pb01 to v.2.1.0 downloaded today. I cleared all caches using EE’s utility, renamed my system folder, and followed (also double-checking) the upgrade instructions. My system folder is just called ‘system’ due to some earlier upgrade issues from v1.6.x which I reported at the time. Whether or not I copy my existing third_party, config, and templates folders makes no difference; I’m stuck with the error: “The configuration file does not exist.”

It does exist, and I’ve changed its permissions from 666 to 777, deleted it completely, replaced it several times, chanted, etc. I have no helpful PHP errors logged, just this one message. Any ideas?

    Matt,

Can you confirm how far along the upgrade process you got when you saw this message?

Can you clarify you are using the version update documentation as opposed to the build update?

Have you uploaded /system/expressionengine/config from your backed up files?

    Hi John,

I saw this message immediately after uploading the new files, so technically I didn’t even get to start the upgrade process.

Yes, I can confirm that I’m using the version update documentation for EE 2.0.1, and I’ve been through the version-specific notes just in case.

Yes, I’ve copied /system/expressionengine/config from my backup, and I get the same result whether I do or not. (Curious, because I assume even with a completely fresh set of files I’d at least get the installer.)

    Matt,

To clarify, you’re getting the same error even why you try a clean install? Can you try wiping and re-uploading the EE 2.1 files again?

Well now you’ll think I’m crazy, but it worked today. Yesterday I had renamed my existing system folder by appending “_old” to its name. Today I dumped it in a subfolder, and for whatever reason that might have fixed the problem.

Maybe if we all just walk away slowly we can pretend this thread never happened. Clean installer (no config) looked fine, and copying over the config folder and third_party stuff allowed for a smooth upgrade.
