Hello, I recently posted this topic regarding EE1 but since EE2 is now official, I thought I better ask my question again. I apologize if I’m posting this in the incorrect location.

Hello, everyone. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read my thread. I appreciate any advice and support you can offer.

Our intern is working on a small site for a client and I’ll be in charge of coding the thing in EE before turning the site over to the client. The Portfolio section has several image sliders that act as containers for each project.

    Here’s what I’m talking about: http://pinkboatcreative.com/test/portfolio.html

The client needs to be able to add new image sliders and images through the EE control panel. Could you offer some advice on how I could approach this from the development perspective? I assume I should use a dedicated blog for those elements but I’m unsure how to dynamically generate new sliders based on the images and descriptions the client will upload.

I’d also appreciate recommendations for plugins that would make image handling easier.

Thanks a TON if you can help me out. I’m sort of an EE newbie and keeping my fingers crossed that someone will have a helpful solution for me.

    Hi Patrick,

I assume you have a portfolio/projects weblog. I tend to use the Matrix add-on for things like this (project galleries, testimonials etc). http://pixelandtonic.com/matrix

This gives you a grid/table type field that lets you add any number of rows of info.
So, say for your PIC project, you could have a matrix field called gallery with fields for image and caption.
And then you would add a row to the matrix field for each image you need in your slider.

Then, in your template, there are simple tags to loop through all image entries and you can use this in your slider code.

I find this approach easiest as it automatically allows for a different number of images per project and also lets you keep all project related info within the one weblog entry.

    Hope this helps,
    Janine.

Janine, thanks so much for the quick help. I really appreciate it.

Will the Matrix add-on work in EE2?

No worries Patrick. Yes the current version of Matrix is EE2 ready.

Have not used Matrix 2 myself yet but I’ve used the older free version on a number of EE1 sites with great success.

I can confirm that Matrix 2 is pretty much awesome.  😊  It’s the perfect solution for what you’re trying to do!
