    Hi,

I’ve had a successful install of the 2.0 beta running locally under MAMP for a while. I upgraded it to 2.1 and all is well there.

I wanted to try some new things with a fresh install. So, here’s what I did:

    1. Downloaded a fresh copy of my Freelancer license code
    2. Ran phpMyAdmin from MAMP and created a new database
    2. Ran the installer using the database name, localhost, root, root for the db parameters
    3. Got the message “A Database Error Occurred. Unable to connect to your database server using the provided settings.”
    4. Ran the ExpressionEngine 2.0 Server Compatibility Wizard
    5. Got the error: Critical Errors; To complete the wizard check, the following error(s) must be addressed: Unable to connect to your database server

This is consistent with my install attempt. What I found to be strange, however, was looking at the compatibility report, the second item calls for “MySQL (Version 4.1+) support in PHP” as required, but my MAMP install got a “No” for this. I have attached a screen shot of the compatibility results.

I am running on a Mac with Snow Leopard. Running phpinfo on my system shows:

      PHP Version 5.3.1
      mysqlnd 5.0.5-dev - 081106 - $Revision: 289630 $

    Any clues would be appreciated.

    Regards,
    -Bob

P.S. Thrilled that 2.1 is out.

You will get that as it is having trouble using your db details to connect.

Can I confirm that you have a password assigned to root?

I have both the db username and password set to “root.”

Just tried a different password for root and that failed in the same way.

You can close this one. It was my error. I was also using VirtualHostX and managed to have some ports configured incorrectly. My fresh install is working fine.
