I’m working on a multi language site using EE 1.6.8 and need to have the member registration, activation and notification emails sent to the member in their selected language.

In the specialty templates settings I see an option to over-ride the template and use the custom language (see attached file) but using this seems to make no difference at all to what is sent. Despite the member’s language setting being French, the mail is still sent in English.

Is there some other setting I need to fiddle with?

Upgrading to 1.6.9 is recommended, it fixes a number of bugs and has further improvements. Do you have the French etc. language packs installed? When you check the user’s settings, to the have their preferences set to French? Otherwise the site default (most likely English) is going to be used.

Yes I do have the French and Dutch language packs installed. Indeed if I log in to the CP using one of the accounts with those languages selected then the interface is in that language.

I will try an update to 1.6.9, that would seem logical but I’m surprised that this hasn’t come up before if it is a bug.

Marco, which version and build of EE1.x are you using? You can find that at the bottom on any control panel page.
