I’ve been running two weblogs using the same field group. Both weblogs now have thousands of entries. Now I need to give each of the weblogs their own field group because they’ve become quite distinctive.

    My custom fields are:

    A
    B
    C
    D
    E
    F
    G

Weblog X needs the following fields:

    A
    B
    C

Weblog Y needs the following existing and new fields:

    A
    D
    E
    F
    G
    1
    2
    3
    4

What is the best way to do this? I can’t imagine manually editing thousands of entries.

Anyone? I think I can export the weblogs, then edit the data file and import it into the new fields, but I’m wondering if there is a more native EE approach to handling field group changes.

Are you running EE1 or 2?

If 1, take a look at Gypsy: http://brandon-kelly.com/gypsy  (but be sure to make a backup of your DB before taking the plunge!),

In 2, you could conceivably use 1 giant field group and the custom publish layout feature to selectively show/hide fields per channel:

EE 1. Thanks for the suggestion!
