Randomly blank template after saving an update

Using 1.6.9 we seem to be getting a random update of nothingness when saving a template update.  Even in the revision history it shows as a blank template.  This happens completely randomly with no real rhyme or reason.  Any ideas?

Have you seen: EEWiki:// HowTo Determine Memory Limits

How much memory is allocated to PHP?

    Memory is set at 16M.

The key here is that we don’t get an entire blank white page (common with PHP Memory issues), we get a blank template textarea.  It actually writes nothingness to the database and saves it as a version.

Can you try to have that amount of memory increased? 16 MB is the bare minimum, I’d suggest twice or even four times as much. See if that changes anything.

Is there anything unusual about that template? Very large, eg? Does this happen with all of them, or only certain ones? Any pattern at all?

No pattern. Extremely small templates. I did find some other threads mentioning Suhosin as a culprit.  Any settings I should be looking for there?

Does that happen reproducably on the same template? Ie, it doesn’t save at all, or does it fail once and then work on the second or third attempt?

I am not familiar with Suhosin, but that or mod_security are other things to check for, yes. Ask your host for assistance there. There should be log files in either case.

Just got the memory limit bumped up to 128.  We’ll see if that has any effect.

When I say completely random, it’s just that.  Same templates update fine 15 times in a row and then - bam - completely blank.  Copy and paste from a revision history, update, make changes again, save.  Rinse and repeat.  Templates from big to small.

    I’ll keep you updated.

    horizonvp,

Are you using any extensions? Try temporarily disabling them globally via the green button in the Extension Manager and see if you can reproduce the issue.

Doesn’t seem to be extension related either…

You mentioned Suhosin earlier; have you been able to reproduce this on a server without it?

I’ve never had this issue before with EE.  We’re working on a project for a university and I’m not sure that they’ll be willing to remove Suhosin.  Any idea what interference it may be causing or why it wouldn’t play nice with EE?

    horizonvp,

EE does not behave nice with the Suhosin patch.  See archived thread here

You will have to talk to your server admins I’m afraid
