I made sure to allow commenting for my weblog in weblog preferences, but I still get this error:
Commenting is not available in this weblog entry.
Is there somewhere else that this is being disabled?

The preferences only set a default for future entries. Have you made sure that particular entry does, indeed, allow for comments?

I even went in to the entry itself and checked the “allow comments” box.

Please tell us more about your site. What version and build of EE are you using? Any extensions? Do you’ve got a link to the site?
