How would it be possible for a user to update a weblog and when they save it the status is “closed”?
Pretty much everything bar URL Title is turned off in Publish Page Customization.

You’d have to set your Author (or whatever you end up calling it) group to not have access to the Open status.
Does that help?

Cheers for that, it appears the MSM doesn’t have a default status group.
