Building a front-facing and intranet site for local government agency.  In the planning process, I’ve discovered some resources that may be shared across sites, e.g.: channel content.

As I understand from a viewing of the docs, this might be a good application for the Multi Site Manager (MSM).  Two questions:

    1) Is only one discussion forum license necessary to use the forum on the sites managed by MSM?

    2) For those using MSM, what are your general impressions?

    TIA

    1) Yes, only one forum is required for all of your sites.
    2) I leave that to the community 😊 Personally, I like it. It does what it’s supposed to without a fuss.

I agree with Ingmar.  I think it works great and it never gives me any trouble.

Thanks for the replies.  One additional question regarding the private, intranet site (and I think I know the answer, but want to be certain.)

[Q] Access to the site (login) is controlled via the template prefs?  Nothing in MSM controls this?

    TIA

I’m not sure if you are asking about restricting access to the site or the the site’s control panel?

Member groups can be assigned individual permissions on a per-site basis—meaning that you can have administrators with greater levels of access on some sites and less (or none) on others.

We’ll need to restrict ALL access to the intranet site to just those allowed to view it.  I think I can do that at with ‘template preferences’, but am wondering if there may be a ‘site wide’ method I’m not familiar with?

If there is then I am also not aware of it.  I suspect template preferences are the way to go.

View privileges are handled via member group and template level configuration with MSM same as in a single-install of EE.
