What LCD do you use when setting in front of a PC all day?

I’m shopping for a new LCD and all I can find is information on how good videos look on the screens. The only problem is that I don’t sit in front of my computer to watch videos. I’m a programmer so I sit in front of my PC to look at text on a white background.

So, what screen do you use and how sharp is the text? I personally want a really sharp, non-ClearType blurred display. Here is an example of a normal LCD’s poor rendering of text (even without ClearType). You can see that the font bleeds around the edges (anti-aliased) instead of remaining sharp.

If you want performance, buy LCD with PVA/MVA it is a bit more expensive than popular TN.

You should have said: I look at white text on a black background, as that is much easier on the eyes.

Actually, that’s incorrect. While white text on a black background is easier to read - it is not easier on the eyes. You see, the higher contrast enables light text to be read - but prolonged exposure ( > 2hrs) will actually strain your eyes more than dark text on a light background.

The most important info is that the LCD/LED is much more healthy than old crt.

However after 6 years (10h a day, mon-sat) of using LCD my sight is getting worse.

IMO the bigger screen is always better but for working.

Speaking of health, you might want to try a standing desk. I picked one up from our local thrift store for about $25 and I’m having a blast being free to move around. I think it’s also helping my concentration by keeping my blood flowing.

That guy has a hacked standing desk that doesn’t look tall enough for him. I’m 6’ and I use this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/code2design/4619733153/

For some reason standing really helps to keep me focused on the task at hand. It also is really easy to just walk away from a problem for a second and come right back. Sitting in a chair I was too lazy to get up and take a breather.

My guess is that standing improves circulation and that keeps your brain working better. I don’t think that I’ll be ready to stand for 6hrs straight any time soon - but I’m sure I’ll get there. In the mean time you can use a tall stool/chair to alternate.
