Is there anyway to standardise the timezone between all members and the server?

The website i’m working on has authors from Europe and America, and we are finding things are jumping between different days, or not displaying yet because that viewers time zone thinks it’s in the future.

Is there anyway to force everyone to be on new york timezone for example?

    I’m finding it very confusing.

For example I was on London time, save an entry, it doesn’t appear, save it 5 hours earlier (server is -5) it appears.

I then set my time zone to -5, save an entry, it doesn’t appear, but it i save it to a time 5 hours earlier it appears!

i’m really confused how this is working.

    Hi Joobs,

You can set defaults but users will be always be able to override with their own timezone. Make sure the localization settings are correct first, with server offset at zero. Does that help?

I’m still having problems with this…

    Localization Seetings:
Server Time: (UTC -5:00) Eastern Standard Time, Western Caribbean Standard Time
    Server Offset: blank
    Default Time Formatting: United States
    Dayling Saving Time: No
    Honour DST: Yes

    My Localization Settings (UK):
(UTC) Greenwich Mean Time, Western European Time, Daylight Saving Time (flase), Time Formatting: United States, Language: English
If i publish something i now get: 2010-06-08 01:34 PM

    Author’s Localization Settings (New York)
(UTC) Greenwich Mean Time, Western European Time, Daylight Saving Time (flase), Time Formatting: United States, Language: English
If I publish something now i get: 2010-06-08 08:34 AM

How come their publish date is different (do i need to save their localisation time for it to take effect)?

Also they have managed to publish some existing entries apparently 1 hour in the future, i’m not sure how this is possible since everyone’s DST is turned off?

First things first.. Which version/build of ExpressionEngine 1.6.x are you using? You can find that out at the bottom of any control panel page.

The current version of the 1.6.x branch is 1.6.9 and the build is 20100430.

OK, so you want to standardize on one time and not worry about the changes back and forth between DST and non-DST.

Honor the Daylight Saving Time setting associated with each weblog entry? should be set to No.

Are you certain the author’s setting is set to GMT?

I’ve set the daylight savings time to no.

The author’s settings are set to GMT when I look at their account information… however, i’ve just logged in as them and resaved their localization information and created a new post, the publish time is now coming up as GMT rather than -5 hours. So when an account is created is their timezone set to the server?  But the localization settings page just display GMT by default? Why didn’t it show -5?

So when an account is created is their timezone set to the server?

If your members have not set a time zone preference in their personal profile the times will instead be shown according to your master system localization settings. They can be found in the Admin > Localization Settings area of your Control Panel. If you prefer that the localization settings of a particular member be used as the site default this can be specified in the My Account > Administrative Options page.
