Lots of Photos on One Page, ala Big Picture

While the photo presentation system of Boston Globe’s “Big Picture” section may not appeal to everyone (many large photos on a single page), for many folks it works just fine. And it’s hard to argue with success.

So I figured implementing such on an EE system would be easy enough … but … Brain lock.

I can see multiple entries displayed on a single category page, but that’s not what I want. I could hand-code each entry into existing text fields, but that’s just not right, you know.

If I wanted a single entry to contain several photos (but not a predetermined number), with individual captions, and to be displayed on a single page, what would be the most efficient method? Thirty to 40 sets of custom photo/caption fields and a content template filled with conditionals for those fields?

It’s the question that drives us, Perak. It’s the question that brought you here. You know the question, just as I did.

    What is the Matrix?

Always wanted to do that… sorry 😊

Ha! That’s cool. A couple of years ago, at the beginning of a road trip from Texas to Cupertino, Calif., with my son, I couldn’t resist dusting off — and changing — an old “Blues Brothers” quote. As we pulled out of the driveway I turned to him and said, “It’s 1,650 miles to Cupertino, we’ve got a half a tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, I need a cup of coffee, and we’re already an hour late leaving the house. Hit it.” He just grinned and shook his head.

Looks like Matrix might be the answer to this and much more. Thanks! I’ll give it a close look.
