Today has been my first day working with EE2 in earnest. We here at Nine Four decided it was about time we started to migrate given that we are now a good few releases in to the Public Beta.
Unfortunately my experience thus far has not been at all positive. I’ve really found the new UI very obstructive, I’ve come across numerous ‘PHP errors’ whilst carrying out seemingly basic configuration tasks and most of all I just despise the ‘pop-down’ notifications and the publish page configuration toolbar. Navigation in general seems much slower for common tasks and I really find the UI and jQuery madness just gets in the way.
I’ll be logging some bugs later on today but I felt compelled to post my initial thoughts here while they are still fresh.
I know that the team have been working very hard on EE2 for a long period but right now it feels like it’s cast aside ‘solid’ and ‘reliable’ in favour of ‘fancy’ and ‘look at’. I’m aware that ‘under the hood’ EE2 is a much nicer beast but at present this seems to be at the detriment of what was once a rock solid control panel.
I was really looking forward to EE2 but I feel deflated and disappointed right now. Am I alone with these thoughts or am I just expecting too much?
