This question may be related to a resolved thread.

After reading the above post, I would like to add some notes to this issue. I am having the same problem with two separate websites. One is build is 1.6.7 (and another) 1.6.8.

The other difference is that I’m not using the List Maker plugin, Instead the areas causing this problem are text areas using the tinyMCE extension. The weblog is also set to automatically make emails and links active.

    Site One Email at bottom.

Site Two (email at end of paragraph)

Note: They work perfectly in Firefox, but not IE.

    Any thoughts?

Moved down to the 1.x support forums.  If you disable all extensions and/or use a plain Textarea (not TinyMCE) this doesn’t occur?  Are you using LG TinyMCE?

I disabled Tiny MCE Extension for EE (v.1.0.1) and refreshed the page. Still the same problem.
I don’t have LG TinyMCE. I just looked into it and it’s newer than what I have installed. I will try it out. thanks!

I have the same problem with installations of 1.6.8 and 1.6.9.

It tends to affect Internet Explorer 8 (and possibly 7) only. I was of the belief that it was something within the browser that was causing the problem rather than the site.

    UPDATE

    I have identified the problem.
Because I am using a WYSIWYG editor the author of the entry had made the email addresses he was putting in links.

The EE system was then turning the content of these links into links which causes IE to freak out and show the Javascript fallback.

    Easy fixes:
    1. Turn off the setting that converts email addresses and URLs into links
    or
    2. Remove the manually created links from the entry

    Long term fix
Update the EE function that converts email addresses and URLs into links so that it won’t touch anything already within an <a> tag.

Hope that helps someone. It’s been driving me nuts.
