I was just working on a website for a client and for one of my captcha’s I was served “hell33.” Being that some of my clients are Christian organizations, I think this is inappropriate (I even think it’s inappropriate for any organization).

Is there a way to delete this word from the captcha dictionary?

Yes, there is. You can manually edit the captcha.php file found in the /system/expressionengine/config folder.

Is there any way that EllisLabs could remove this for future releases? I don’t see why hell is a necessary word and to edit it out every install will be frustrating.

Pleae feel free to make a Feature Request. If it bugs your client that much, the immediate fix is to simply delete it from the file Sue indicated.
