We have quite a few photos in our gallery and I usually select one as a photo of the day. I call it up with a manual, hard-coded link each day. I’d like to automate this process but I can’t figure out the best way to do it. What I need is to have EE pull a photo at random from a gallery category, display it for 24 hours, then pick another and place the first one at the bottom of the stack. Is there a way to code this? RSS maybe? A dab of php?

...is this ‘gallery’ module or weblog entries?

On top of my head…(from weblogs) EE can pull “random” entry but it can not ensure to exclude those entries that have been rotated/viewed.
I suppose poor-mans way out would be setting entries to be published and then closed after 1 day while ‘scheduling’ the publication of the next….
Not sure how much this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking of pulling them through the gallery module but it may just a little easier to do what I want through a weblog instead. I appreciate that direction since I had my blinders on.

You still may be able to…either pull from database or folder as source of images/url but I think this is where you would have to use php exclusively.
Keep in mind that gallery module is gone in EE 2.0 so going the route of weblogs/channels might be something to consider for a long run as well. 😉
Unfortunately, this means loosing some of the features from the gallery module and moving and recreating some of the content.
All the best in your project.
