How is the best way to work with external editors such as Coda and EE2.0?

I saved my templates as files. The templates are now saved with the proper extensions and this is a huge improvement. So I’ve got my template folder within the themes-directory. And there are my groups and files. Fine.

I created a folder for images related to the template there. Fine.

Now I can edit everything with Coda, right? but wait… what’s about snippets and global variables? I’m using snippets for m tempaltes now, but I can only change them with AdminCP?

Or I’ll kick snippets and will using embeds again?

The call is yours, obviously. I for one really don’t change snippets that often to make editing them in a local editor an absolute necessity.

Personally i think this is also something that would work much better if they are editable in an external editor. Just makes sense if you are using templates as files, to use snippets in the same way and/or global variables. Hope this makes it into a new feature.

I also think that having all theme related files (so including snippets and global variables) offline would be a better way of working. I find myself often using “it’s all tect” firefox extension for snippets and that’s a bit annoying 😊. It would be more productive to have it in your editor;‘s project file.

From the example of Agile Records they do have snippets in their themes folder so it seems like it was a feature or will become a feature 😊
