Ten Websites in One

I currently manage magazine websites for a publisher. There are ten websites that are basically the same site but have their own host, SSL, etc.  I am recommending that we combine them all into one website branded with the publisher’s name.  However, I want to make it to where people can still get to their specific magazine quickly by typing in MagazineNameA.com.

I know EE offers a multisite license.  This only covers three sites and isn’t really what I am trying to do.  I think I should be able to handle a domain redirect with my host and not involve EE at all. Before I make my final recommendation to use EE, I want to double check that I am understanding the multisite license correctly.  I should be able to change 9 of the 10 domains to point MagazineNameA.com to Publisher.com/MagazineNameA without affecting EE or incurring any additional cost for multisite licences.

Hi, DesignBloke - you could handle it that way, yes, using the classic method of handling multiple domains:

What the MSM gives you is distinct Sites to manage things more cleanly together, with member group permissions per Site and fully separated templates and data.  EE + MSM is 3 Sites, and you can purchase Additional Sites ($49.95 / Site commercial), and of course, it is the only supported solution for what you need to accomplish.

I can attest that the classic method of handling multiple domains and sub-domains works wonderfully in EE (make sure your server configuration can support it). As to whether you need MSM will depend on your needs to segregate members and content. If you’re not worried much about either, then the classic multi-domain setup in EE make it easy.
