    Hi,

We get random 404 errors on different pages while the specified template and content exists. After a few refreshes the requested page shows. We realy don’t get the issue. It’s not possible this is related to a faulty template, because the error doesn’t popup every time..

We have tried changing settings for:
    - Caching types
    - PATH_INFO vs REQUEST_URI
    - Tracking Preferences
    - Strict URL’s on/off

    But all without any luck..

    Thanks.

    Ralph,

Which version/build of ExpressionEngine are you using? You can find that out at the bottom of any control panel page.

The current version is 1.6.8 and the build is 20091002.

Do you have an example we can see?

Ralph, I would suggest to upgrade your sites to the latest build of EE, if only to rule out file corruption. Is that a Windows or UNIX server? Also, whenever a 404 error is triggered, is there a corresponding entry in the server log? What does it say? This looks like a server issues of some sort; these are notoriously difficult to track down if reproducing them is not reliably possible…

    Hi,

Well about upgrading… we get getting lese erros in 1.6.6 and 1.6.7 than 1.6.8. So when the problem isn’t 100% solved i don’t like to upgrade to 1.6.8. The type off server is unix, We have different server locations and configurations and on all servers we get error’s like this.

    A part of the serverlog:
    210.52.223.40 - - [30/Oct/2009:07:16:45 +0100] “GET / HTTP/1.1” 404 9089 “-” “Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1;)”

Yes i now there hard to track the problem 😉 it takes a lot of my night time 😛

To be honest, this doesn’t look like much of an EE issue. Have you asked your host about it? There is no reason why your web server should return a 404 error for a page that is clearly existing (/ in this case). A configuration issue, perhaps? Are you using rewriting to remove index.php from your URL?
