    Hello,
My client wants to remove the bulk of their website while they go through a period of re-structure. They want to keep the home page (no links) as a holding page.

What’s the best way to do this without causing link-rot. I’m guessing .htaccess re-direct to the homepage?

They’re keen that any ‘old’ content should also be invisible to search engines.

Any advice, .htaccess code very much appreciated.

    Many thanks

I would just turn the system off and edit the system offline template, any non-logged in visitor of the site will then see that page.

Would that hide the existing pages from search engines?

Yes, it would hide any data that’s not in the site offline template.

Out of curiosity, what do you mean by “link-rot”?
