A few weeks ago, I learnt about a new shopping cart which (I think) was built on CodeIgniter, and possibly may have mentioned EE.

The website claimed that it was many times faster than magneto, etc.

I must have found out about it somewhere in the EE community, but for the life of me I can’t remember what is was called.

I’ve tried googling and devot-eeing to no avail.

If you remember something of the sort, please let me know!

    Thanks!

No worries 😊 I had that bookmarked, so it was easy to find. Also, just noticed this thread should probably be in The Lounge, so I’ll move it.

For the benefit of those who come across this thread, check out shopigniter.com and wonder if they have plans to integrate with EE:

We are currently in talks with some leading developers of Expression Engine solutions to integrate as seamlessly as possible with EE 2.0. Although we will not be ready for the initial launch of EE 2.0, we will be out shortly after. We will announce more in the next few weeks leading us to the release of EE 2.0.

ShopIgniter have just got $3m in funding. They’re running it as a hosted service just now but they are/were talking about a community edition. They’re going to have to with competition like Magento out there. Magento is a BIG Zend framework app which is heavy on RAM and CPU so if ShopIgniter can do something that is lighter and not such a pig to maintain, that doesn’t break between version updates, they’ll do well.

Plus, I’ve been hearing from some e-commerce sites that they get more business referred to them from Facebook and Twitter than from traditional web advertising. ShopIgniter’s USP is it’s tight integration with social media.

They’re up against Magento Enterprise Edition - Starts at $11,125 a year.

Magento has a free Community Edition though. ShopIgniter are hopefully doing that too by the end of the year.

Don’t get me wrong it looks great and having it with EE would be a dream come true….but wow the price tag for support alone is higher than EE itself.
Yeah small-mid sized business will need to look elsewhere which is a shame.

Not surprising when they just took on $3 million in funding.  VC’s aren’t just donating their money, they are going to expect a return on it.
