    Hello,

I have a website for a professional music educator association which has several membership needs. I need to have separate membership forms for different membership groups.

    Groups:
    Music Educators
    Community Members
    Students

Music Educator Members will have access to a separate subdomain site via MSM. Therefore I can control the membership fields for that specific website with the built in stuff.

However the main public website (separate domain via MSM) will have 2-4 member groups which require separate field data. I would basically like to have several membership registration forms.

Is this doable with built in EE membership module?
Would the Solspace User Module be the best solution? and is this a straight forward solution worth the price tag?

    I appreciate any input.

    Thank you,
    BJ

Solspace user is a very nice addon, and I recommend it.

If I get what your asking… You should be able to achieve the same thing with the normal EE Member module as well, using some SAEF forms and some conditional statements.

Do you want different registration forms? Or different forms once a user has registered, and is logged in?

    Adam,

I would like different registration forms. This allows the organization to collect data from different groups at the time of registration. However, each group will need to provide different sets of data. For example, music educators will have to enter school information (Address, Phone, Etc) while community members who are not affiliated with a school will not have that data. I do not want that field on their form at all.

Do you think this would be possible with SAEF and the EE Member Module? I’d appreciate if you could give me a “big picture” of how this can be done.  OR is the Solspace module easier for this situation?

    Thanks for your help!

I am fairly certain that all custom fields added apply to all member groups, using the default EE Member Module…
    http://expressionengine.com/docs/cp/admin/members_and_groups/custom_profile_fields_edit.html

    The good news…

You can however absolutely create different registration forms using Solspace User, and forcing the group_id, see below:
    http://www.solspace.com/docs/detail/user_register/#group_id

So I think your only option is to use Solspace User. It is a great addon, and will make your life a lot easier, when dealing with custom forms and users.

    Good luck!

I second the Solspace User Module, it makes things like this so much easier.

Thank you very much for your suggestions. I will be purchasing the Solspace User Module sometime next week and give it a try.
