I am building a site for an association that already has members. I don’t want members to be able to register, just login and logout.

I want the admin to manually add members as we already know who the members are and already have their contact details, membership names / numbers etc.

I would like to add them manually and then send them an email explaining how to login.

I don’t want to spend all my time deleting pending users from my forum(s). If I can stop them registering in the first place it would be much better.

Greg I might have figured it out.

Greg the settings are:

Allow New Member Registration: No
Require Member Account Activation: Manual activation by administrator
Default member Group Assigned to New Members: Members

This seems to work fine.

If a new member tries to register by going to http://www.mysite.com/member/register they get the message:

Notice

New membership accounts are not accepted at this time.

<a href="http://www.mywebsite.com">http://www.mywebsite.com</a>

Where can I change this text?
Can I redirect to a page created within my site?

i.e

http://www.mywebsite.com is a closed community site with membership created and activated by an Administrator.

To join http://www.mywebsite.com you need to have [reason to gain membership]. Please download and complete our membership form and send it to the community secretary (details are in the membership form).

If your membership is accepted you will be sent a welcome email with further details etc etc.

You’d need to edit the value of:

mbr_registration_not_allowed

Which is found in /system/language/english/lang.member.php around line 460.
