    Hi guys

When I try and email my members I get a mysql error 1153. I do have 20,000 members so I imagine it is trying to send a lot of data. Is that what causes this, simply sending to (too) many people. I remember when I used UBB it would send 100 emails at a time. Is there a way to do this in EE..

    My web host said this:

Unfortunately we can’t increase the limit.  The script shouldn’t be trying to run a query that large - there might be a patch for the software to fix the bug.

Even if you upgraded to a VDS you probably wouldn’t want a higher limit for risk of exhausting the server’s memory.

Yes, there is a batch mode for email. It is strongly recommended in cases like yours.

What version and build of EE are you using?

    Hi there

    I am using 1.6.4

Something’s not right as I have set to send just 10 emails at a time and I still get the same page which then crashes my browser, it is definitely trying to send more than 30 emails. Any ideas?

I am using PHP Mail, batch mode, 10 emails. It works sending an email to super admin (1 person).

I strongly recommend upgrading to the current version, ie 1.6.8. It’s a recommended security update. That said, do you know what size your allowed packet limit is? Take a look at this thread, too, it explains the problem in a little more detail.
