Hi,
We’ve been getting a lot of comment spam on our blog lately, and so my first course of action was to block the offending IPs in the Blacklist module. However, I noticed that the comment spam is (according to EE) coming from the same IP as legitimate comments. I did some digging around and discovered that this IP was actually the IP of our web host (specifically, the server that our website lives on).
It seems that any comment made to our blog is reported by EE as coming from this one particular IP, when in fact they’re not. I’ve tested this out from multiple locations, and sure enough, every comment is showing the same IP. This renders the Blacklist module useless.
I’ve searched around the forums and can’t find any solution to this. I’ve built many sites in EE (including some on this same host) and I’ve never encountered this problem before. Is there any reason why EE wouldn’t be able to report the correct IPs for comments? (It’s able to show the correct IPs in the Control Panel Log, why not in Comment lists?)
Thanks for your help.
