Dragonfly is a long ago fork of PHPNuke. Was initially CPGNuke, well supported, developed and active…not so much any more.

I have a couple of large sites using Dragonfly and was wondering if anyone has handled a migration from DF or another nuke based site. I see some of the conversion topics in the wiki here. DF uses a hacked version of phpBB2 and PostNuke is another fork of PHPNuke so there might be some hope there.

Here are a couple of my sites that I need to migrate:

http://www.sporttwin.com Almost 10k users, 160 stories, maybe 100k posts, over 1GB of photos in user galleries.

http://www.americanintelligence.us Over 1000 users and pretty light on posts but over 5000 news/stories and quite a few topics for those stories.

I have searched long and hard to find a replacement CMS, preferring to go commercial in lieu of a free solution that might not be here in a few years. EE is looking pretty good right now and I have it running in a test site for eval.

Any former nuke users could sure help me out by posting their thoughts here.

Hi, Brad -

There are several migration options discussed in Migrate to EE.  Those will help with your weblog entries.

Moving over any sorts of photo galleries will be a maual process if you use the photo gallery module.  If you use the weblog module then you can do so using one of the above options.

You might want to discuss a job o this nature with someone on the Pro Network.

Also, I see you intend o have user galleries, you may wish to contact sales to make sure that you’re within the licensing.

Thank you for your response.

I have been reading through your docs and forums for the past few days and can see that migration will be a manual process for the most part.

I have also read a few of your posts regarding user galleries and licensing. If I decide to use EE it is very obvious that I will need to port/bridge something like Coppermine or Gallery2 with EE.

On the other hand, while EE presents itself as a CMS I am not sure it does so in the traditional definition thereof. Starting many years ago with PHPNuke then on to CPGNuke and Dragonfly, my requirements for a CMS have been defined by those applications and my community members expect nothing less.

I’ll continue to evaluate EE, Vivvio, Drupal and others, 10 years of running community sites dictate that I do no make a hasty decision but rather the right one.

I would also like to clarify that while the physical architecture of the previously mentioned CMS solution is what I’m trying to retain, along with specific functions. I realize that EE is an animal with better breeding.

I feel quite certain that at the end of the day I could achieve my goals with EE or a few others but want to make sure that whatever I choose I will not need to repeat the process anytime soon. Many of the community developed ‘free’ products come with hidden baggage of poorly written code, lax development and security and the option to lose interest anytime, thereby leaving people like me to reinvent the wheel.

I’m also concerned about cobbling together various products, such as EE with Gallery2, etc. I prefer to keep my eggs in one basket in this case.

DF was better than most for a few years but has now fallen prey like so many before it.
