    I’m bringing into EE a site that was developed using aMember for its membership system, and I can’t seem to get the EE import utility to work with the CSV file. I’m trying to import 178 members.

    I’m uploading the CSV file, ExpressionEngine sees the file, parses it, and on the next page shows me a big list of ALL the delimited data, and asks me to specify a Member Field for each one. When I do, and try to submit it errors with this: “Duplicate field assignment: username”.

    I can’t get past this, and entering the member data manually would be a massive pain. Any help?

    Ridge, you need to tell us which fields the .csv file has in it. Looks like you are trying to assign two fields to username.

    The data is exported thus:

    username;password;email;screenname;
    username;password;email;screenname;
    username;password;email;screenname;
    username;password;email;screenname;
    etc.

    There are 171 (not 178 as I said before) rows in the file when I open it in Excel, all formatted exactly as above.

    ok, I see the problem. I had a few rows being exported from aMember that I didn’t want to import, so I was opening the CSV file in Excel to delete them (that being the default app for CSV files on this computer). Obviously something wasn’t agreeing with the XML creation because when I opened the CSV in TextEdit, deleted the rows and uploaded the file, everything worked great. I created my XML file successfully, uploaded that, and now I have 171 members in the database!

    Moral of the story: Don’t use Excel to edit the CSV file before attempting to import members.

    Glad you were able to figure out what the problem was. Don’t hesitate to post again as needed.
