    cannot log into my site.  even when i tried to reset the password, it just gives me the same login screen (no error message, just returns a refreshed login screen with the login fields blank).

    help.

    Greetings halloweencat:

    Are you running the Multi Site Manager?

    First thing I would try would be to clear your browser cache & cookies.  Then FTP into your site directory, and clear the contents of teh /system/cache folder.  After you do that, try logging in again.

    greg, hey 😊

    no, i’m not running multi-site manager… does that make a difference?

    also, i’m running version 1.6.4.

    okay, couple things.

    1.)  While I don’t think it’s the cause, I would take this time to do an update, there have been several security releases and feature improvements since 1.6.4, so it wouldn’t hurt.

    2.)  open up your config.php file, and add:

    $conf['admin_session_type'] = 's';

    Save the file, upload, clear your browser cookies, and let’s try again.

    haven’t installed the new version (that’s going to be a bit of a slog for me, don’t know where to begin…i’ve dowloaded and unzipped the files).... but, for what it’s worth, the same thing is happening on an entirely different laptop (vista, running firefox 3, vs. xp running firefox 2).

    cheers—

    greg, hey there 😊

    am attempting to update to the newest version today.

    however, i cannot backup my database and path and config files, as i cannot log on (catch 22).

    would someone at EE be able to back up these things for me, before i attempt the update?

    thanks and cheers—

    You do not need to login in order to backup your config files and database (unless you can’t log into your FTP account, either). You’d use a third-party tool like phpMyAdmin or something like that for that purpose. Very often the host provides a facility to backup your db as well, might want to ask them about it.

    Ah, EngineHosting, our sister company.

    do you guys provide a facility for database backup?

    My suggestion would be to open a ticket with their support. I’m sure they’ll fix you up in no time.

    I was experiencing the same issue as this - no error, just redirect to login page after logging in - adding the following to the config.php file as suggested above fixed it.

    $conf['admin_session_type'] = 's';
