Okay, I’m justing EE for a long, long time - but I did never realize there is something called “Buddy List” (see attached screenshot) in the user control panel. Even in this forum, everyone is able to use it. But how can it be used?

The only reference in the docs I found is here: http://expressionengine.com/docs/cp/my_account/index.html

    Buddy List
You may add or remove members from your Buddy List here.

Great ... but as a programmer, can I use the Buddy List for any kind of social magic on my site or in some forums? What is the effect of adding someone to my Buddy List as (site/forum) user? I have not clue, search didn’t help either - perhaps I’m missing the obvious???

Any kind of enlightment very welcome!

    Hi Markus,

I could be wrong but I think it’s really just a way to be able to very quickly PM someone if you add them to the list instead of always trying to remember their username / screen-name you just add them to the list and then you can very quickly PM them.

    Best wishes,

    Thanks, Mark!

Makes sense somehow - I was misled by the term “Buddy List”, looking for something to allow “friending” or something like that…

Perhaps I’m just too oldschool: I would name a list of users for fast PMing ... “address book” 😊

    Best,
    Markus

Then in that case I’m old school too!! 😊

I could of course be missing something else that it is for but it’s the only thing I’ve ever come across using it for so far. I’m sure one of the moderators will be able to tell us if there’s more to it than that though.

    Best wishes,

    Mark
