We have a client that would like to know how many times a certain PDF is downloaded. Is this possible?

    EE is hosting the site.

Another one you might like is the AJAX Linktracker by silenz.

If you’re using something like Google Analytics, it’s easy to tag links to track file downloads, outbound links etc, and view that data in your analytics reports along with all the other incredibly valuable activity data you can mine.

If you add a few lines of jQuery to your page head, you don’t even need to tag links individually - the jQ will do it automatically. Only down side is the JS dependency.

Glad you got something sorted. It is a nice little add-on that one.
