When I create a member group I can either turn comment moderation on or off for that group.  Is there a way to restrict comment moderation to a specific blog?  When a member of this group goes to the CP there is a link for “Comments Awaiting Validation” but that takes him to a list of all comments that are awaiting validation for all blogs, even though he has his access restricted in other ways to a single blog.  Am I missing something?  Thanks.

    festus,

You can find those options under Comment Administration at the following path

CP Home ›  Admin ›  Members and Groups ›  Member Groups ›  Edit Member Group ›  Members

I am familiar with the path you specified but under “Comment Administration” I see the option “Can Moderate Comments”.  If I turn this on, the user can see all the comments awaiting validation, even those in other blogs to which he is not assigned.  Can I restrict comment moderation to only the weblog to which he is assigned?

What happens if he attempts to moderate that particular comment?

He can validate the comment even if it was to a post in a blog to which he wasn’t assigned.

Can you please take us through all of the current permission settings you have for the member group at this time?

    Thanks,

The Comment Administration permissions for this group are:

    Can Moderate Comments                       —Yes
Can view comments in weblog entries authored by others —Yes
Can edit comments in their own weblog entries       —No
Can delete comments in their own weblog entries       —Yes
Can edit comments in ANY weblog entries           —No
Can delete comments in ANY weblog entries           —No

The Weblog Assignment permissions for this group are:

Can post and edit entries in:  Practicing U.S. Women’s History — Yes
Can post and edit entries in all the other weblogs is set to No.

Even if I set “Can view comments in weblog entries authored by others” to “No”, I can still see the comments directed to other weblogs via the CP.

Are there any other permissions which you would like to see?  I should also mention that I am running EE 1.6.0.

Greg - thanks for the response.

This may be a “show stopper” for this group.  Intuitively, that doesn’t make sense to me.  If you can restrict editing and posting of entries by blog, I would expect comment moderation to be restricted likewise.

The more experience I get with EE, the more it seems that it is really suited to one person (or group) running a set of blogs as opposed to different people each running their own blog. For instance, in this case, I wouldn’t want an admin for another blog deciding which comments to allow for my blog.  I’m guessing that I would need to run the multiple site manager to achieve what I want?

That is spot on and why the license forbids using EE to host sites for third parties.  If that is the situation you’re in, you might like to review the license and email sales to make sure that you’re within those restrictions.

    Lisa,

I’m trying to use EE to set up blogs for different groups at our university.  For instance, the one I’m currently working on is for a group of faculty members that wants a forum for the discussion of teaching and research in U.S. women’s history.  Our Admissions office is also running a blog as is our office of Communications & Marketing.  Does that sound as though it is within the license agreement?

Hi, John, thank you for the explanation!  Yes, that’s fine as it is all under a single university banner.  What you might consider to get the separation you need is the Multiple Site Manager.

That will give you a much cleaner separation between faculty departments and other areas while still sharing the membership database and a single installation.

And of course you can always put in a feature request for the comment moderation to have its own permissions.
