This question may be related to a resolved thread.
In case anyone’s run into the issue mentioned above (email not getting to google apps or other externally hosted email services):
If your web host has local email delivery enabled, as my mediatemple (dv) server did, you have to turn it off to allow EE emails to reach external mail servers.
This google apps support article, and this mediatemple article explain how to disable local email delivery.
Bear in mind, this assumes you’ve set up your DNS zone file to point to google’s MX servers, as described in this article.
