    Hello,

My cousin offered me to code warehouse system based on php & Mysql(I’d do it in CI).

I asked him about references and explained to him that references are important part of the price I’d ask, too. He answered he doesn’t want my name there for sure.

He wants to put there Created by CousinsFirm or Powered by CousinsFirm and he prefers that my name is mentioned on his company’s website god knows where..

The reason those references may be lucrative to me is that the system would be used by relatively large companies - one of which is Telecommunication operator.

I know that If I sell him my product, he can change anything on it - since we do not do this legally (on paper). However, how much more should I charge for leaving my “authorship” to him?

Sure, He can never take my right of Author away, but he’s certainly not going to present that warehouse system as ..“You know, yeah, it’s Created by Us but Fero has created it..”. I’m positive about it ..

I don’t know what country you are from, but you should probably have a look at the copyright laws and form a contract based on them.  I know it is your cousin, but it is a business transaction and you should protect yourself.  I’m sure he will understand, and a contract will allow you to both sleep better at night.

If your cousin plans to resell the system, instead of simply developing it and handing it off, you should ask for a cash fee up front, along with a percentage of future sales or stock in his company.  If you go this route, a contract is essential.

He’s not going to sell the system, he’s using it as a platform for his customers. It’s warehouse tool for distribution of his printer cartriges.

I had a similar situation, was working on a project for a local client. He was paying regular price for my time and we agreed that if one of us would start reselling finished project, we would split it (70/30) - 70% to person who made the sell and 30% to other party.
