Just saw this as part of an article over at Web Designer Depot

I’ve had an account there for a while. It’s a neat service. Not as many features as Codespaces, which I think is better for the free plan. Remote deployment is allegedly good but I’ve not used that.

I tried both Beanstalk and Springloops about a year ago and was quite satisfied with both though I ended up using Springloops because Beanstalk had some technical issues back then which they’ve fixed. Last time I checked, Springloops’ free account provided 10MB and allowed unlimited users.

I haven’t used Springloops. I have used Basecamp, ActiveCollab and ProjectPier.

I really don’t have a favorite as of yet. I feel they all fall short in some way. Usually the reasons I find collaboration systems frustrating is that they either do too little, too much or the interface is unintuitive.

ActiveCollab is nearing a 2.0 release and I am hoping it addresses some of its’ issues. I think it has good potential and could pose some real competition to win over some of the masses at Basecamp. Activecollab is a tad pricey and they are raising the price another $100 when 2.0 gets released.

ProjectPier is pretty good for a free product and can cover a fair amount of ground for basic project management.

The list referenced above at Web Designer Depot also included a potential solution I have yet to hear about… OpenGoo. I’m curious to test this system out as the screenshot was intriguing and I like free! 😊
