Hello, I just had my hosting company install EE and the Forum. I am now trying to figure out how to begin setting up the discussion forums through the admin. My hosting company tells me that the blog page and the forum page are one in the same, but I don’t understand how that could be? I also couldn’t find any instructions in the EE user guide on how to setup and get started with creating forums?

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Greetings growandmake & Welcome to the forums!

Details on setting up your forums can be found here

    Does that help?

    Regards,

    Hi Greg,

Thanks, but that doesn’t help. :<. I don’t see anything called ‘Forum Module’, as described in the instructions. Where would I see this, in the admin? How would I know if the forum module was properly installed, which I suspect is the problem? My hosting company told me that the blog and the forum are the same, but I suspect this is not true.

If you log into your control panel and go to the Modules tab, you should see a link to the “discussion forums”.  If you see the word, but no link, look over to the right of the column and you will see a link to “install” it.

If there is no option for the discussion forum, you will need to FTP it to your server as per the forum install docs

Thanks Greg. It’s not there, so as I suspected my hosting company didn’t install it.

Okay, it’s installed. One problem I noticed right away is in the forum when I click on either ‘Your Control Panel’ or ‘Your Public Forum’ I get this error

Warning: Forum::include_once(./system/modules/member/mod.member.php) [forum.include-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/growandm/domains/growandmake.com/public_html/EE/system/modules/forum/mod.forum.php on line 793

    Warning: Forum::include_once() [function.include]: Failed opening ‘./system/modules/member/mod.member.php’ for inclusion (include_path=’.:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/growandm/domains/growandmake.com/public_html/EE/system/modules/forum/mod.forum.php on line 793

Fatal error: Class ‘Member’ not found in /home/growandm/domains/growandmake.com/public_html/EE/system/modules/forum/mod.forum.php on line 796

    Any ideas why?

It looks like the ./system/modules/member/mod.member.php file was either not uploaded, or became corrupted in the ftp process.  I’d suggest that if it is there, replace it with a fresh version, or if it’s not there, upload it.

Okay, I’ve asked the hosting company who performed the install to look at this thread to diagnose. My next question is how do I create a theme which is like the one in this forum? The default theme is not that nice. Also, why does the EE logo appear with my forum? Is there a simple way to change that?

    Thanks Greg!

Can we try to keep separate issues to separate threads? Let’s make sure the forum module works fine before venturing into customizing you templates.

Okay, my hosting company is now re-installing the forum software. Where should I go to learn about changing the theme/template for the forums, removing the logo and everything else.

    Thanks!

The best source of documentation are the templates that ship with the forum module. My recommendation would be to copy one of the templates (the “developer” one would be the obvious choice) and work from that. Also, people in the “HTML & Design” forum might be able to help you here.

In this thread I would like to make sure that the forum module as such actually works.
