I have had a developer attempt to convert a wordpress theme to an EE site as I like the design and functionality.

The original theme is here: http://themeforest.net/item/striking-premium-corporate-portfolio-wp-theme/full_screen_preview/128763 (which I own a license to)

The site in development is here: http://abuzzsolutions.com/index.php

I am not happy with the work so far and had a simple question, can it be done?
What I am asking specifically is: can I get EE to run a site with exactly the same functionality as this wordpress site and how difficult would it be?

Second, not so important question is, once done can it be easily packaged to be used on other EE sites?

Yes - it can be done.  My own site http://boyinks4adventure.com is the Woo “Postcard” WP theme ported over to EE.

    The process was to:

    - install WP
    - Render all designs used in the site
    - Save the rendered HTML
    - Bring that HTML into EE
    - Figure out how to power the different functionality using EE native code or add-ons.

Second question - not really.  This is one place where EE just isn’t like WP.  You can do a db backup & restore but that’s about it.  Talk to Marcus @ EETemplates.com for more info.

    Ok, thanks for your reply.
I really don’t think EE is for us unfortunately as this is all too hard.

Regarding your second question this can definitely be done.

Depends on what level of packaging you need but most devs will set up an installation with all the standard channels, fields, add-ons etc… that they feel are necessary for a default install and before adding any content / entries whatsoever they will back the whole lot up, FTP files and database and store this so that you can relatively quickly deploy this to a new server. There are other ways using GIT and what not too but I’m not familiar with these. Other developers on here will be though so hopefully they can pop in here to answer that for you.

As mentioned previously it can definitely be done but all depends on how much control you need over it. I’m not sure exactly what Wordpress allows you to do regarding this but I would think if you’ve got a site built in ExpressionEngine without any content and you want that as a starting point then this is definitely doable yes.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

    Hi,

How do I convert ExpressionEngine templates into wordpress themes? I have been given the responsibility of converting an EE website into a WordPress website. Please let me know how I can achieve the same website design as the EE site in the new WordPress website.

    Thank You
