This add-on for EE2 lets you encrypt/secure download links, restrict access to the files and also display some useful statistics. It consists of module and fieldtype.

    Features

    - Create highly secure download links
    - Display pre-generated links or generate them ‘on the fly’
    - Serve files from URL or from Amazon S3 or RackSpace CloudFiles secure containers
    - Limit file access to certain members/member groups/IP
    - Limit file access based on custom member profile field value
    - Limit number of time file can be downloaded by same user
    - Expire the download link after some time
    - Display file/link donwload statistics
    - Display member download statistics

    Hi Yurly,

I know the forums here aren’t meant to be used for support issues for 3rd party add-ons but I was just wondering if possibly could you clear up one point from above?

When you say you can ‘serve’ files from Amazon S3 I’m just wondering if that means that the files will come directly from S3 or will they still use the bandwidth of your own host whilst downloading?

Looks like a really nice module and would love to give this a test if possible.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

    Hi Mark,

the module is fetching a file using API from S3 and sending it to browser. I believe it consumes your hosting bandwidth, thought I’m not really 100% sure 😊 - did not check how S3 API handles that.

I will PM you the files now.

    Hi Yuriy,

Many thanks for the information. That is the only thing I’ve always wondered about S3 and I’ve always wondered what the point of S3 is if the request gets sent through the host using up bandwidth. Not that this is your problem but just a general problem with S3 or download links in general I guess?

    Best wishes,

    Mark

AFAIK, people mostly use CDN service to deliver S3-stored content. But this is not applicable if files are stored in secure containers of course 😊

Mark. Files from S3 should not use up your server bandwidth unless you are cacheing the files locally and then serving them to your users.

Yurly. I would love to give the add-on a try.

    Hi Justin,

Mark. Files from S3 should not use up your server bandwidth unless you are cacheing the files locally and then serving them to your users.

Thanks. I’m fairly certain I’ve never cached them as I wouldn’t know how to do that 😉 but everything I’ve ever read on the forums here about this sort of thing before has lead me to believe that this is what happens.

Thanks for the information though. I’m sure you’re right but just wanted to make absolute certain before doing something like this.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

P.S. Yuriy. Sorry for taking over the thread slightly.
