I have written a two-page (better, two-sided) technical marketing piece that you may find helpful when pitching ExpressionEngine. Feel free to download the .pdf and distribute to current or prospective clients.

I have titled it “ExpressionEngine and The Multiplier Effect”.

In it, I share my take on why so many people report accelerated design and development productivity using EE - framed in words suitable for intelligent, but perhaps non-technical, decision makers.

Of course, I tell a very positive story (not hard, since I believe the story) but also a true one. I hint, where relevant, at ongoing debates within EE World. Technical marketing should be non-fiction, not random advertising noise.

I am planning to write another piece during the coming month and have some content ideas. What type of piece(s) might make a noticeable business difference for you? I’m also open to refining this piece in response to useful feedback, though I consider it a ‘final’ at this point.

Please note that I do not presume to reflect accurately, let alone represent (!) EllisLab’s views on my topic. I provide an appropriately discreet disclaimer to that effect following the conclusion.

Best of luck to all on continuing to build your EE client base!

Download ExpressionEngine and The Multiplier Effect.

Thank you for this work, Russlipton! I’m downloading it now to look over. It’s great to get this from someone in the community and see what your testimonials and approaches are. Excited to read more!

This is great work Russ. I linked it up on EE Insider this morning.

Any chance you plan on licensing it under some terms that will let people expand on it at all? This is a great community resource on its own but I imagine people would like to tweak it to their own needs or add on extra sections to cover more aspects of EE.

Thanks so much for this great contribution to the community!

This pdf could be our dev-bible. A great resource.

    Thank you very much.

I’m very grateful for the kind words - so glad to contribute something that might help people .... sell their services!

I commented back to Brian Warren on EEInsider, but will reiterate here:

I have another piece ready to draft and complete in the next two weeks. It is not especially technical, but will (I hope) not only be useful but complement this one nicely. Not saying more for now ...

Brian notes correctly at the Insider that some decision makers are very technical: I don’t have them in mind at the moment but believe I could write to/for them. In any case, reasonably detailed feedback about what such people ask/need to know about EE will be most helpful.

Also, I am quite glad to provide a downloadable version in a ready-to-edit form so you can specalize/extend this to meet the specific questions or issues raised by a given client: think of it as open-source technical marketing. Sounds kind of cool. I’ll offer a few suggestions for simple cooperation on my site when I have the additional link ready.

I do believe the community would be well-served by a limited, but fairly complete set of short information pieces, whoever/however they are produced. Though sometimes an irritating, ‘useless’ check-off item from my point-of-view, lots of big fish expect such collateral to be provided as an early filter on the professionalism of the sellers .... and vendor .... whether or not anyone ever reads them.

So, let’s give customers what they ask for, if we can.

I have now uploaded a .zipped file to ee.russlipton.com which provides the document in a highly compatible, though not identically, formatted version to my deliverable .pdf. My document used Calluna and Diavlo fonts. While both are available without charge online, I formatted the editable files in Georgia as the default font, for your editing convenience.

    The format types include:

    Apple iWork Pages (.pages)
    Microsoft Word (.doc)
    Rich Text Format (.rtf)
Rich Text With Graphics Document (.rtfd)

I include a short README as well, which includes the above information and two simple requirements re: usage.

    Bottom line:
    Download a .pdf distributable as-is and/or
Download a zipped archive which you may use to edit/extend or customize the document for yourself.

    Enjoy ...

    Thank you Russ

Now someone should create multiplieer.com and put your content supported with appealing visuals.

    What do you think ExpressionEngineers!
